Engaged in Atlanta

I had the pleasure of photographing DeJaune and Ben, a cute couple who got engaged in Atlanta. Even though they met in high school, they weren’t high school sweethearts. Their friendship developed into a mutual attraction, then a relationship and now an engagement. I’ve always believed the best relationships start as friendships. When I asked Ben his favorite thing about DeJaune, he said “Her beautiful smile. Her whole face lights up.” I asked DeJaune the same question and she felt the same way about Ben.  You can see from the engagement photos below, they both have beautiful smiles. These two just exude love and happiness. You can tell that they really enjoy each other’s company. Who else but a playful couple who really loves each other, would play Thumb Wars during an engagement shoot. We had a great time taking photos near Atlantic Station and the Millennium Gate museum. First Date – Johnson Family Reunion Favorite Movies to Watch – (DeJaune) chick flicks, (Ben) Action. Favorite Things to Do Together – Just relax, snuggle on the couch and spend time together.  They sound like my kind of couple. Instead of spending their engagement planning a wedding, they spent their time search […]

Agnes Scott Engagement Photos

Kristen and Nick braved the sweltering summer heat to take engagement photos at Agnes Scott College, where Kristen just finished her post-Baccalaureate pre-med school program.  Agnes Scott engagement photos offer a variety of scenic backdrops with its Gothic architecture, the Alumnae Garden featuring a fish pond and much needed shade from the 100+ year old trees. Kristen and Nick were so carefree and relaxed, you’d never know from the photos that it was 95 degrees and we were being eaten alive by mosquitoes. They were great sports. I’m looking forward to photographing Kristen and Nick’s wedding at the Payne Corley House in Sept.

Planning the perfect engagement portraits Couples often don’t know what to do with engagement portraits. They usually can’t envision beyond save the dates and decor for the wedding reception. But engagement portraits mark an important time in a couples journey together. It’s a time filled with hope, excitement and anticipation for the future. Imagine looking at these portraits 10+ years later and re-living the hope that you had at the time. For that reason, I think it’s important to display engagement portraits in the home along with your wedding photos. The great thing about them is they 100% controllable, unlike your wedding day, with the help of a talented photographer, you can be creative as you want to be. Your style, […]

Choosing a Location for Spring Engagement Portraits As winter melts away, people flood the parks to take advantage of warmer temperatures.  Prime spots in popular parks, such as Piedmont Park, Stone Mountain Park or Atlanta Botanical Gardens,  are often very crowded. Your portraits may lack a romantic, intimate feel if lots of people are in the background.  Consider smaller neighborhood parks or nicely landscaped office parks as alternatives. If you have your heart set on a popular location, take a few hours off of work and choose a weekday time to avoid the crowds.     […]

Atlanta Weddings: Flare

So another technique I like to incorporate is the use of flare in my portraits.  Flare is the circles of light you get when you shoot towards the sun (or any light source). It’s caused when light bounces around inside the lens and hits the film or digital sensor. If it’s too much light or at the wrong angle it can ruin a photo. Done correctly it can really add a beautiful element. Here are a few examples.

Atlanta Wedding Inspiration: Reflections

I love incorporating reflective surfaces into portraits. Mirrors are the most common but any shiny surface like glass, polished stone or even water will do. I generally have to see the image in my mind before I can place the subjects and frame the shot. Check out a few of my favorite photos which incorporate reflections.

Engagement Photos in Stone Mountain Park

I met Erika and Keylan for their engagement portraits at one of my favorite locations, Stone Mountain park. I may seem biased since I live in Stone Mountain but I really like the park because there are so many different settings and locations to shoot. This was the first fishing engagement portraits I’ve done and it was a lot of fun. Here are some of my favorite engagement photos from the shoot

Engagement Session at Berry College

Last month I met Jon & Lisa at Berry College for engagement portraits. The campus is really beautiful with plenty of great locations for photographing. I could have a spent the entire day there. Here are a few favorites from the day.

Atlantic Station Engagement Portraits

Here are a few favorites from my recent engagement session with Elaunda & Chris around Atlantic Station and the Millenium Gate. I’m looking forward to photographing their wedding next month at Biltmore Ballrooms.

Fall Engagement Portraits at Piedmont Park

Here are some favorites from my engagement portraits with Wesley and Katrice. It was a beautiful day with clear blue skies and brilliant fall colors. Here is a slideshow from their entire engagement session at Piedmont Park
