Five Do’s and Don’ts of a Photo Session

Do you have a big photo session coming up, or considering one? Maybe you’re investing time and money into it and you want to make sure it turns out the best? I have some advice for you to help you get the most out of your photo session. Here are my top  5 Do’s and Don’ts of a Photo Session:   1. Don’t be late Being late causes unnecessary stress which will show in your eyes. The later you are, the less time you will have to get good quality pictures in the best circumstance. The photographer may have other appointments or may be planning on using specific light (for example Golden Hour, right before the sun sets). There is always traffic in Atlanta so you should plan accordingly. Any pre-shoot appointments such as hair & makeup should be scheduled earlier in the day and not directly before your portraits.   2. Do relax Try your hardest not to be tense or stressed out. A talented and professional photographer such as myself will be able to direct you in a way that will make you look great if you are willing to try everything, and trust their experience. Ideal Times for Your Photography

On your wedding day, I’m sure you will want photos of everything! From candid shots of wedding accessories such as shoes and rings, to genuine and natural portraits, and pictures of the wedding venue. However, it’s important to remember that taking these photographs takes time so you should do a little planning of the important memories you want captured. I work with my couples to create a timeline that ensures all the important details are photographed. Here are a few tips for creating ideal times for your photography. RINGS, DRESS, SHOES AND OTHER DETAILS I’m sure you love the beautiful shots of the wedding rings laying on the table, the bride’s dress hanging before you put it on, or the bridal bouquet. It’s best to have these photos taken early before the mayhem begins. Have these items ready and waiting for your photographer to arrive. I generally spend 15-20 minutes on these details. PREPARATION If you’d like to have photos taken as you get makeup done, and get dressed, I would suggest giving your photographer at least an hour to get these photos. These will be some of the most emotional images, highlighting the anticipation of what’s to come.  This […]

Atlanta Parent Magazine May Cover Shoot

The May copy of Atlanta Parent magazine is out, featuring my latest cover photo shoot. When Atlanta Parent Magazine called, I jumped at the chance to photograph the cover and match the photos taken from a previous play date. (Note-the inside photos accompanying the article are not mine). I always enjoy working with them and have some serious fun with the kids. Maria and Sarah-Elizabeth were good sports, braving a chilly but beautiful spring day.  Maria is such a cutie! She really enjoys climbing on the jungle gym and dancing to Taylor Swift’s Shake It Off and Annie. Below are a few photos from the entire cover shoot.  If you missed my first cover shoot Atlanta Parent Magazine, you can find it here.  Watch for the June issue, which will feature another fun photo shoot.

Race Car Theme Birthday Party

My youngest nephew turned two last fall and celebrated in style with a race car theme birthday party. His little party was held during lunch hour at his school where his mom also teaches. Black and white checkered balloons, wallpaper and candles decorated the place, while a bright red tablecloth with table runner that looks like a race track set the tone. What racing themed party would be complete without a cake shaped like a race car and two little candles on it to signify this milestone.  The two miles per hour speed limit sign was also a clever touch. Of course my little nephew didn’t seem aware that he was the center of this big to do. But he was definitely happy to eat cake & play with race cars. His classmates also welcomed the change in routine. I don’t remember if any music was playing but there was lots of dancing, running and jumping going on.

Cover Shoot for Atlanta Parent Magazine

Last month, I photographed Atlanta Parents double spread showcasing all of their finalist for the Cover Kids Photo Contest. It’s always an honor to have your work featured in a magazine. This month I am excited to have my first cover shoot photo featured on Atlanta Parent Magazine. In Aug, I photographed Izzy Rice, the 2014 winner of the cover kids contest for the October issue.   We had a great time photographing fall & Halloween themed portraits for this months issue. She is such a sweet girl and we had fun with her showing us all of her different scary faces. Below are some of the highlights from the entire cover shoot.

Atlanta Parent Cover Kids

I had the pleasure of photographing finalist for the Atlanta Parent Cover Kids, which is featured in this month’s issue of Atlanta Parent Magazine.  It was a fun but exhausting day photographing almost 50 children ages 6 months to 12 years. With only 4 hours to shoot, I had my work cut out to catch 50 smiling, happy faces. Atlanta Parent staffers were on deck with balls, trucks, and stuffed animals to keep the kids happy and occupied. The toy spider seemed to be a favorite with all of the children. Here are some “outtakes” from the photo shoot showing some of the kids’ enjoying the toys.  Be sure to pick up a copy of the October issue of Atlanta Magazine to see my cover shoot from last year’s Atlanta Parent Cover Kids winner.
