Back from Haiti

I’m back from my mission trip to Haiti and it was an amazing experience. I recommend everyone to visit a third world country at least once. I definitely want to go back. I’m sharing a few photos but the phrase a picture is worth a thousand words seems so inadequate in this case. The photos just can’t compare to seeing, hearing, and feeling it.     I can’t think of any words to describe the ride through Port-Au-Prince. There was so much devastation and so many people out that it was hard to take it all in. The few photos I have are all I could get while riding in the back of a very bumpy van. Oh, and don’t complain about Atlanta traffic. No one stops in Haiti. They just honk their horns and swerve around anything or anyone in the way. We spent most of our time in Leogane where the epicenter of the earthquake was. Our hotel was a beach front resort by Haitian standards. Ten women in a 2BR/1BA apartment made it a very challenging week. The occasional power & AC outages and cold showers were a minor annoyance compared to the millions of mosquitoes. Most […]

Haiti Mission Trip

Those who know me know that I love to travel and see new places. But I’m not just interested in sight seeing and shopping. I’m interested in being immersed in different cultures and experiences. There are so many places I want to go and so few that I’ve already been, so I’m excited that I’ll be making my first trip to the Caribbean this summer. I won’t be cruising or vacationing in the islands. I’ll be participating in my first mission trip. This summer I will travel with my church on a mission trip to Haiti.

Spring Portraits

Here are some favorite images from my niece and nephew’s spring portrait session. They are such hams.

Happy New Year

I didn’t get a chance to blog all my weddings and shoots this year so I wanted to end with a year in review.

Day Trip to Providence Canyon

A few weeks ago my husband and I took a day trip down to providence canyon. It’s hard to believe that big hole in the ground formed from farmers who caused erosion. It’s not the Grand Canyon but it’s a nice site to visit. The walls are extremely soft so you can’t climb it. But you can walk through the canyon floor and there’s a nice trail around the outer perimeter. Here’s a few photos that I took while there.

Carefree, Az

Carefree, AZ. What a place to visit. I just got back from a wedding photography convention and wanted to share a few highlights from the trip. We had hotel suites with incredible views of the  mountains. And with 2 roommates, whom I’ve never met before, the rate was just as great. The weather was perfect and the seminars were insightful. The last few photos were of different photographers who participated in a shoot swap. They are Cindy & Daniel of Orange Turtle Photography in San Diego; Ryan Brenizer from New York and Rob and Lauren from Alberta, Canada.  We took turns photographing each other for 5-10 minutes. Talk about a challenge, it generally takes me 10-15 minutes to warm up, which is why there are a few more photos of the last couple.

The Cranky Princess

The Cranky Princess is the cutest little gift shop in downtown Stone Mountain.  You can find jewelry, accessories, home decor and candles.  They also offer bath & beauty products such as Carol’s Daughter which can’t be had in this area without driving to Perimeter, Buckhead or beyond.  The shop also hosts princess tea parties for little girls. She has the cutest fairy tea room complete with china, princess gowns and tiaras for the attendees.  I first met owner Lauren Oselette at the Atlanta Parent Block Party last year where we were both exhibiting. The little girls LOVED her Glam Girl glitter lip gloss and lotion where you can choose your own flavors.  I stopped in last week to visit and took a few photos. The next time your in Stone Mountain, you have to visit. And you have to buy a Cranky Princess t-shirt. I got one last year for my neice.  That shirt describes her perfectly! When you visit, make sure to look for my portrait album which Lauren has graciously allowed me to display there.

A Day at the National Mall

I spent half of June in Delaware for a class & while I was there I drove down to the Capital for some good old fashioned sight-seeing.  I hadn’t been to DC since junior high (except when I was in my college band and marched in the 1997 inaugural parade for President Clinton). I spent almost a full day in the National Mall and another day at Arlington Cemetery.  A short walk from there is Marine Corp Memorial (Iwo Jima statue). By the way, if you’re in the area, I highly recommend the DC by Foot walking tour. It’s free but your tour guide will surely earn a gracious tip.

My Birthday Tradition

I just wanted to share my annual birthday decor – a button I received from the my elementary school in the 5th grade.  All the kids got them but I’m pretty sure I’m the only one who stills wears it.

“Classic” Portraiture

Most people who I’ve met don’t like to be photographed or don’t think they’re photogenic.  Now I understand why. http://listoftheday.blogspot.com/2007/09/great-olan-mills-photos.html
